Secret Iphone Codes, Block Caller ID, Find Out Carrier, Precise Signal Strength

by John Schindeleon November 29, 2016
Maybe it's just me, but doesn't it make you feel like a super-spy when you punch in a secret code and it works? That's the part I never expect, the working. Really, half the time I can't remember the codes I've set up myself, so when it works, it's always a happy surprise.

It's even better knowing that a company built in secret codes that actually have functions. As if the iPhone wasn't already awesome enough, right?

1. Block Caller ID

Punch in #31# and your phone number, and whoever you call won't be able to see that you're the person calling.

2. Get a more precise signal strength.

It's a longer code requiring a bit more effort, but it gives you a solid number for your signal strength. Dial *3001#12345#* to bring up a list of options. Ignore the options and hold down the power button. When the power screen pops up, press the home button until the home screen reappears. In the top left, you'll have a number instead of bars or circles. Between -40 and -80 is a strong signal, below that is a bad signal, and if you're down around -140, you have no signal.

3. Get your phone's unique IMEI.

Every phone has its own identifying number, just like your car's VIN. You can find the number in your phone's settings, or you can just input #06# to bring it right up on your screen.

4. Find out where texts go.

Text messages don't go directly from your phone to the recipient's phone. They're routed wirelessly to a message center by a particular phone number. You can see your carrier's secret number by punching in *#5005*7672# and then hitting the "call" button.
